NBC MEETS WITH THE SIGNALS DISTRIBUTOR, SET-TOP-BOX MANUFACTURERS AND LOCAL CHANNEL OWNERS IN THE FEDERAL CAPITAL TERRITORY AHEAD OF THE ABUJA DSO ROLL OUT.

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has continued its meeting with Channel owners, licensed Set-Top-Box manufacturers and Signal distributors ahead of the Abuja Digital Switch Over.
The meeting, which was moderated by the DG, NBC, Mall. Is’haq Modibbo Kawu and held at the Commission’s headquarters took place on the 1st December, 2016.
The DG noted that the meeting was to assess the readiness of the six local stations in Abuja and to have the full complement of stations in preparations for the Abuja DSO, as well as, check how prepared the Set-Top-Box manufacturers are ahead of the project.
A representative of Inview Nigeria Ltd, the software provider for the DSO, Mr. Ravi, confirmed that 23 channels were already running on the boxes and gave an update of the boxes received so far. He also noted that On-air test has been confirmed, and they were working together with Pinnacle Communications Ltd in other to ensure a seamless transmission.
Mall. Kawu, while reacting stated that other local channels will come in after the Abuja launch and the reserved stations will be for regional stations because the Commission thinks it will be impolitic to have only national stations fill the spaces. He also added that the NBC will have to see the delivery of the boxes as well as know if they were in good shape and expressed satisfaction that the boxes were been delivered by the manufacturers.
The Digiteam Nigeria Chairman, Engr. Edward Amana, while reacting to the coverage map by the Pinnacle Communications Ltd, one of the signals distributors, pointed out that the signals covered by the signals distributor, goes beyond the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), adding that when the launch is concluded, residence will only watch where the signals covers.
He also added that with the coverage map, distributors in those areas will advise buyers if they would be a need for them to get the indoor or outdoor antennas.
The DG, NBC, also noted that the Commission was going to complete action on the Information service content that will be in the boxes. He added that information materials from the Commission’s website, facebook and twitter accounts will also be on the platform as well as information from Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) and other Government institutions. He added that as we move closer to the Switch off, there would be lots of decisions that will be taken.
“I feel very confident about the work done so far, and the team is a wonderful team. I believe that we should be able to deliver the Abuja DSO. This is going to be a very historic point in our country’s history and evolution because definitively we will switch off analogue transmission in the city and it is the collective work of all stakeholders involved in the process that will build a platform for this.”
Mall. Kawu thanked the stakeholders for attending the meeting and requested for their cooperation in moving toward.
