NBC SANCTIONS FRCN KADUNA ZONAL STATION AND LIBERTY FM KADUNA FOR UNPROFESSIONAL CONDUCT OF PROGRAMMES
The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC has noted with grave concern, a trend of unprofessional broadcasts on the airwaves. Consequently, the Commission has sanctioned FRCN Kaduna Zonal Station and Atar Communications, owners of Liberty FM Kaduna for unprofessional conduct of programmes. Also sanctioned within the same period, were Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation and Gotel Radio, Yola.
The Commission wishes to re-emphasise that all broadcasters must adhere strictly to the ethics of the profession in conducting all programmes on their stations in respect to the Nigeria Broadcasting Code and the National Broadcasting Act CAP N11 Laws of the Federation, 2004. For the avoidance of doubt, the Commission hereby draws the attention of all, to the following sections of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code:
3.1.2 which states that:
Materials likely to incite or encourage to the commission of a crime or lead to public disorder shall not be broadcast
3.9.1 which states that:
Language or scene likely to encourage or incite crime, or lead to disorder, shall not be broadcast
5.3.6 which states that:
A live broadcast shall take cognisance of the cultural and religious sensibilities of all Nigerians and avoid offensive inputs
5.3.7 which states that:
Broadcasters shall exhibit professionalism in the handling of live broadcasts
The NBC wishes to reiterate that broadcasting stations must ensure proper gate keeping and professionalism in all programmes transmitted on their stations as the Commission would impose severe sanctions for any breach of the Broadcasting Code.
