NATIONAL BROADCASTING COMMISSION
REGULATION ON MOVIE PROGRAMME CONTENTS AND
PRODUCT PLACEMENT
In exercise of the power conferred by Section 20 (1) of the NBC Act No. 38 of 1992 (as amended) which stipulates as follows:
‘’The Commission may, with the approval of the Minister make regulations generally for the purpose of giving effect to the provisions of this Act’’.
The National Broadcasting Commission hereby makes the following regulations:
1. Subtitling in a movie or programme shall be accurate and in decent language. Inciting, discriminatory and offensive words shall not be broadcast.
2. The translation of the content broadcast shall be a true reflection of the language spoken and encompass the full message or idea expressed in the statement.
3. A programme which encourages or promote ethnicity, tribalism, sectionalism and other divisive tendencies shall not be broadcast.
SANCTIONS
Any station which breaches the provision of paragraph 3 above shall be liable to CLASS B sanction of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code and any station which breaches the provisions of paragraphs 1 and 2 above shall be liable to CLASS C sanction of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.
INTERPRETATION
The terms and expressions used in these regulations which are defined in the National Broadcasting Commission Act and Nigeria Broadcasting Code shall have the same meaning as in the Act and the Code unless the content otherwise requires.
CITATION:
The Regulation may be cited as the National Broadcasting Commission (Movie or Programme Content) Regulation, 2012.
